Skamnaki
A small tower village near Passava, on the slopes above the Gytheio–Areopoli road outer Mani
Skamnaki is a small village of the Gytheio municipal unit at about 230 metres, 4 km off the Gytheio–Areopoli road via a turn at Passava. It had 79 residents in 2011. The name is attributed to its position at the foot of a mountain, which from a distance makes it look like a low stool.
Local tradition holds that the first settlers came from barren Kelefa. The village keeps stone towers, first built on the north side for defence. Passava castle is about 4 km away and the beach about 5 km. Residents gather at the village church for the feast of the Transfiguration on 6 August.
