Lygereas
An isolated mountain hamlet 13 km from Gytheio outer Mani
Lygereas is a small mountain village of the Gytheio municipal unit at about 340 m, 13 km north-west of Gytheio on the lower slopes of Taygetos. The community also includes the villages of Ano and Kato Asteri. In 2011 it had just 22 residents.
The settlement consists of scattered traditional buildings; the old primary school now serves as a cultural centre, and the feast of Zoodochos Pigi brings back those who have moved away. In neighbouring Ano Asteri the Vasilounianoi tower complex survives.
