Kalivia
The headland at the northern edge of Skoutari bay outer Mani
Kalyvia is a small settlement in the Gytheio unit, built on a rocky headland that closes Skoutari bay from the north, on the east coast of Mani. It is about 12 km from Gytheio and some 20 km from Areopoli; the road reaches it from Kamares on Vathy beach.
On the road between Skoutari and Kalyvia stands the monastery of Panagia Kotroniotissa, a notable example of local church architecture. The surrounding shore has small coves and rocky stretches, while the long sandy beach of Skoutari is a few minutes away.
The area is quiet, with few permanent residents and holiday houses; it works as a peaceful base close to Gytheio and Kotronas.
