Drosopigi
Tserova, a mountain village with towers above Gytheio outer Mani
Drosopigi, formerly known as Tserova, is a small mountain village of the Gytheio unit at about 400 m, in the hinterland between Gytheio and Areopoli, roughly 15 km from the latter. It had 66 residents at the 2021 census, with a permanent population of about 50.
As everywhere in Mani, the residents built towers and tower-houses, several of which survive among the stone houses. The church of Agios Nikolaos stands in the village centre. Small beaches on the east coast are within reach, so the population grows in summer with holiday visitors.
Drosopigi makes a quiet stop for anyone driving the mountain road between Gytheio, Skoutari and Kotronas.
