Agios Vasileios
A lowland village in the olive groves west of Gytheio outer Mani
Agios Vasileios is a lowland village of the Gytheio unit at 50-60 m, a few kilometres west of Gytheio and near the road to Areopoli, about 22 km away. The community also includes the hamlets of Agios Efstratios and Monachi Sykia; it had 124 residents at the 2011 census.
The village is surrounded by olive groves and has no major monuments of its own, but several sights are close by: Passavas castle on the road to Areopoli, the beaches of Selinitsa and Valtaki with the "Dimitrios" shipwreck, and Gytheio itself with the islet of Kranai.
It suits anyone looking for a quiet rural base near the town, preferring olive trees to the waterfront.
